Hapkido is a Korean martial art that when translated means literally "The way of coordinated power". It is a 'soft style' martial art that stresses circular motions and using the opponent's energy against them. In this way, hapkido is ideal for people of all sizes. Using proper techniques, a 5', 100 lb person can defend themselves against a person who is 6'+ and twice their weight or more. The curriculum consists of approximately 200 techniques ( from white to black belt ), each of them addressing a different 'real world' application. There are no forms to learn, and there is no sparring involved. Students are taught basic tumbling and how to fall from several different directions without injury. Students are taught basic tae kwon do style kicks and strikes, as well as defense against the same. Intermediate students are also taught weapons such as short stick, long stick, and advanced students are taught cane, rope, and sword.
For ages 14 thru adult
